Jonathan Lee Walton
Princeton Theological Seminary
Rev. Dr. Jonathan Lee Walton, a social ethics scholar and noted author, began his duties as Princeton Theological Seminary’s eighth President on Jan. 1. Elected in October 2022 by the Board of Trustees, he succeeds M. Craig Barnes, who has served as president since January 2013.
Walton comes to Princeton Seminary from Wake Forest University’s School of Divinity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he served as the dean since 2019 and held the Presidential Chair in Religion and Society. Prior to joining Wake Forest, he served on the faculty at Harvard Divinity School and was the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and the Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church of Harvard University.
Walton earned both his Ph.D. and master of divinity from Princeton Seminary. His bachelor’s degree in political science was awarded by Morehouse College in 1996. He is an ordained Baptist minister and gifted preacher who has continued to serve both his alma maters: at Morehouse, he is a member of the Humanities Advancement Council, and has served on the Board of Trustees for Princeton.
He is the author of two books and numerous articles for academic journals, books, magazines and newspaper, and his work has been featured in numerous news media, both print and broadcast.
David Emmanuel Goatley
Fuller Theological Seminary
David Emmanuel Goatley, Ph.D., an accomplished theologian, missiologist, and academic administrator, assumed office on Jan. 1 as the sixth president of Fuller Seminary. He succeeds Mark Labberton, who has served as president since 2013.
Prior to his appointment, Goatley served as the associate dean for academic and vocational formation, Ruth W. and A. Morris Williams Jr. Research Professor of Theology and Christian Ministry, and director of the Office of Black Church Studies at Duke Divinity School. For nearly four decades he has served in leadership roles in organizations dedicated to justice advocacy, Christian mission, and global ecumenism.
He earned his B.S. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Louisville and holds two degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: an M.Div. with an emphasis in pastoral care and counseling, and a Ph.D. in Theology.
A widely published author and activist, Goatley was ordained in the National Baptist Convention, USA, and served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Campbellsville, Kentucky, from 1986 to 1995.
Jonathan Kulaga
Indiana Wesleyan University
Jonathan S. Kulaga, Ph.D., was named the tenth president of Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) by the institution’s Board of Trustees on August 8, 2022.
Kulaga comes to IWU, which includes Wesley Seminary, after five years as president and chief executive officer of Ohio Christian University. His previous positions include chief academic officer and chief operating officer at Asbury University, and leadership roles in academics, advancement, and student life development at Spring Arbor University.
Kulaga earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Kansas State University, an M.A. in College and University Administration from Michigan State University, and his B.A. in Religion and Contemporary Ministry from Spring Arbor University.
Kulaga succeeds Dr. David Wright, who served the university in various leadership roles over the past 25 years, including 10 years as president of the university.
Keith J. Chylinski
Saint Charles Boromeo Seminary
Rev. Keith J. Chylinski was appointed rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia by Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, in November 2021. Chylinski assumed office July 1, 2022.
He succeeds the Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, whom Archbishop Pérez appointed to a newly created position, Chancellor of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, also effective July 1, 2022.
A priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and an alumnus of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Chylinski was ordained in 2007. He earned M.A. and M.Div. degrees from Saint Charles and an M.S. from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences in 2014. Chylinski also holds a B.A. degree in Music.
Bishop Senior served as rector of Saint Charles Boromeo for 10 years; as chancellor, he will focus primarily on the implementation of the plan for the relocation of Saint Charles to a property which has been purchased at Gwynedd Mercy University and will focus on the seminary’s fundraising effort for the new campus.
Edwin I. Hernandez
Louisville Institute
Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in partnership with Louisville Institute, has named Edwin I. Hernández, Ph.D., executive director of the institute, effective June 1, 2023.
Hernández joins the Institute from AdventHealth University in Orlando, Florida, where he has served as president since 2017. He also serves as a faculty affiliate and founding director at the Project for the Study of Latino Religion at the University of Notre Dame.
Hernández earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, a B.A. in Theology with Educational Emphasis from Loma Linda University, and an M.Div. from Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary (Andrews University). The author of five books and numerous papers, he was ordained to the ministry within the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1991.
Corey D.B. Walker
Wake Forest University School of Divinity
Corey D.B. Walker, Ph.D., assumed the role of interim Dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity, on Jan. 1, 2023. He succeeds Jonathan Lee Walton, now president of Princeton Theological Seminary.
Walker, a scholar of African American social, political and religious thought, joined the Wake Forest faculty in 2020 as the Wake Forest Professor of the Humanities and established the University’s African American Studies Program, for which he serves as director. He holds joint faculty appointments in the Department of English and the Interdisciplinary Humanities Program.
He earned a B.A. from Norfolk State University, M.Div. from Virginia Union University, M.T.S from Harvard University, and his Ph.D. from The College of William and Mary. He has held faculty appointments and academic leadership positions at Brown University, the University of Virginia, and the University of Richmond, and served as Vice President and Dean of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University and Dean of the College of Winston-Salem State University.
Walker is an ordained American Baptist clergyperson, and is the author and editor of several books and numerous articles, essays, book chapters and reviews appearing in a wide range of scholarly journals and publications.
Shawn Colberg
St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary
Shawn Colberg, Ph.D., was appointed Dean of the Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota, and began his tenure on July 1, 2022. He succeeds Rev. Dale Launderville, OSB, who served as Dean of the School of Theology and Seminary since 2015.
Colberg is concurrently Associate Professor of Theology at Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict. Prior to his appointment, Colberg served as Academic Dean of the School of Theology and Seminary (2019-22), and earlier as Assistant Professor for Teaching and the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame.
Colberg received his B.A. from St. Olaf College, an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School and Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. Published widely in academic journals, including Modern Theology, Archa Verbi, New Blackfriars and Nova et Vetera; he also is the author of The Wayfarer’s End: Bonaventure and Aquinas on Divine Rewards in Scripture and Sacred Doctrine (Catholic University of America Press, 2020).
He and his wife, Kristin Colberg, an associate professor of theology at Saint John’s and College of Saint Benedict, are the parents of two daughters, Mary Clare and Catherine.
