The relationship between a board chair and a seminary president is mission critical, as their alignment can significantly impact an institution’s direction and health. A strong partnership fosters trust, strategic clarity, and a thriving environment, while misalignment can lead to tension and ineffective leadership.

The Alliance of Nonprofit Management reported in the publication “Voices of Board Chairs” that the majority of board chairs did nothing specific to prepare themselves for the role. Only 48 percent had been a vice-chair before stepping into the chair.
