News & Insights

The global pandemic has created plenty of stresses and new ways of doing business. For leaders, one of the issues is performance reviews and coaching remote workers. Dr. Larry Braskamp, professor emeritus of education at Loyola University Chicago and a senior fellow at the American Association of Colleges and Universities, recently wrote a piece for Inside Higher Ed, in which he proposes a “sitting beside” assessment as a collaborative way for engaging leaders at all levels. Noting that the term “sitting beside” is a bit ironic in a time of social distancing, Braskamp lays out a thought-provoking approach toward assessments that can be done from anywhere and focuses on trust and development. The piece also includes a link to a series of recommendations, questions, and issues that could open new doors to building leaders in an organization at any level. You can find the piece here.
