Remark(able)

When should a board contemplate an interim executive leader? Begin by considering three questions.

  1. Is the timeline sufficient for a comprehensive planning and search process?
  2. Will the new leader replace a long-serving, popular executive?
  3. Are there critical issues thatmight derail a new leader?

Depending on the answers, an interim leader might be considered first to best set up the next executive leader for success.

If there is or will be an executive leader transition at your school, how would you respond to these questions?
