PATHWAYS INITIATIVE
Lilly Endowment offers new funding

Lilly Endowment Inc. is providing new funding opportunities to help theological schools strengthen their ability to prepare and support ordained pastors and lay ministers for Christian churches.
Through a second round of funding in the Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative (Pathways), originally launched in 2020, the Endowment is now making available up to $325 million to help institutions accredited through the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States (and its territories) and Canada to assess and strengthen their financial operations and educational programs and design and launch efforts that will enhance their capacities to educate and support leaders for Christian churches.
More information about the funding can be found here.

THE MAGAZINE
The Issue of Power

Authors Kyle Strobel and Jamin Goggin make a startling claim in their book, The Way of the Dragon or the Way of the Lamb: “On the surface, things look grand and magnificent, but the path to success and influence is often paved with dark powers.” In a feature in the Autumn issue, Patricia Paddey outlines concerns about the abuse of power in Christian leadership, citing how the authors argue that many churches prioritize worldly power and influence over Christ-like humility, leading to scandals and abuse.
Paddey highlights insights from experts Randall Rauser, Angela Reed, and David Wang, who emphasize the importance of addressing power dynamics in seminaries and the Church by calling for more robust spiritual formation, accountability, and education about the risks of power abuse in ministry. Solutions include integrating discussions about authority, character formation, and governance into seminary curricula; creating a culture of humility and Christ-centered leadership; and preparing boards and institutions to handle power abuse allegations responsibly.

REMARK(ABLE)
"I think AI extends the spaces in which contemplation can be done. The nature of the interaction that I have with Chat GPT when I’m brainstorming a sermon is different than the kind of interaction that I have with my books is different from the kind of interaction that I have with my memory. This is a different mental space, and that’s not something to be afraid of. That’s just another field of mission, another field of possibility, another field of epistemology. It’s just another way."
